Local ICT players make waves in global arena
Local information and communications technology (ICT) companies are fast becoming a major player in the global IT arena.
The past few years have witnessed a strong demand from foreign investors to optimize local talents to service them, as evidenced in the boom of call centers and business process outsourcing (BPO) in the country, industry experts noted.
"Filipino ICT companies are obviously becoming world-class, and we’re proud to say that we are gradually getting there,"said Gigi Sehwani-Benitez, business development manager of TÜV Rheinland Philippines Ltd., the company that recently awarded a DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Certification to Tridel Technologies, a homegrown ICT solutions provider.
She said locally-based ICT companies like Tridel Technologies are exhibiting considerable qualities – pride of success, attention to the service delivery process, and good leadership from Filipino managers. "These are the strengths that foreign investors, especially Americans and Europeans seek whenever they shop for resources abroad," Benitez added.
Tridel Technologies is the first Filipino ICT company and the first Internet service provider through its brand i-Manila to earn such a certification. "This recognition only proves that by striving for continual improvement, Filipino IT companies can keep themselves at pace with the international standards," company officials noted.
Tridel’s initiative of gaining this internationally recognized certification is one step that other local IT firms that have similar attributes can follow as an example to boost their reputation and expand growth, Benitez pointed out.
"There are still some areas to improve if we are to become as technologically advanced as US-based IT companies. These include focusing on critical areas such as respect for intellectual property, further training and development for our human resources, and a more systematic approach to management," she added.
Benitez said that if Filipino IT firms turn their attention to these key areas, they will, in no time, catch up and be at par with their international counterparts. The qualities are already set in proper place and all they need now is to move several notches higher
